Just bought two prime ribs for 50% off! I have a problem. My vacume sealer won't fit them to freeze them. Have put them in large freezer bags until ready to smoke. Did I do the right thing?

Hey brother...ya gotta do what you gotta do, although that's some awfully nice and expensive piece of meat to allow it to freezer burn!  I assume you can't buy larger bags that'll fit in your vac sealer?

If it'll fit in a gallon bag, you might look at your nearest WalMart supermarket for a cheapo plastic vacuum pump...I think it's made by Ziploc...and they sell gallon vacuum bags to go with it.

Just how big are these Prime Ribs (Pounds).

I have often put the whole Roast in a Vac sealing bag, including the Styrofoam tray they come wrapped on, but mine are usually only about 6 pounds.

Hey guys. There pretty big around 9 pounds I think. I had to get pretty big freezer bags. Im not planning on keeping them in the freezer any longer than the summer. Hopefully I can cook em up before fall. I am going to Walmart today I'll look for one of those cheapo deals and see if it works. I thought about freezer paper as well? What do you think?

You might not want to do this, but you could cut them in half & easily put 4.5 pounders in 11" Vac bags.

You could still make 9 pounds at once if you want.

Just a thought,

Huh. You know I never really thought of that. They're such splendid pieces of meat I kinda was afraid of them!! I think I'm gonna do some ribs today maybe I'll re-due them and vac them up. I had kinda planned on doing cowboy steaks out of one of them and then smoke the other. Thanks bear!
