Hi,

We recently moved and now have a nice backyard and lots more friendly neighbors.

I've been using a Weber 22" Master Touch Charcoal Grill for years. But now I need something a bit bigger, but nothing huge. It is usually less than 10 people total that I'd be cooking for, but normally 2 or 4. Mostly burger, dogs, chicken and ribs, with the occasional turkey. Not really looking to do any of the long, overnight type cooks (I don't think).

So really I want something a bit bigger and more convenient than the Weber. I don't know if a WiFi controller would be worth it or not.

I've been reading and looking at the Rec Teq 340 or maybe the 590, and the GM Daniel Boone. Willing to pay for quality, but may not need all the extra features.

Suggestions ?

Thanks.

You are on the right track. Many folks love Rec Teq. I have the Daniel Boone and it does well for me. I did not get the wifi. I use wireless therm to check temps from my lazy boy. I'd get something in the medium size range. I run out off space sometime making jerky/ABT's etc. A second rack would be handy.

Nothing enlightening here but you will not regret a Rec Teq

I have the Recteq 340 and am quite pleased. I can do three racks of ribs in one cook. I have done 2 pork butts.
I just added a Recteq Bullseye which for lack of better terminology is a pellet kettle grill.

Thanks for the replies.

I looked at a GM Daniel Boone yesterday. Looked nice, they only had the WiFi models in stock. Trying to find someone local that stocks the Rec Teq's to look at.

I had the GMG and it was not a good smoker. It had horrible temp swings. Replaced control board twice tried different pellets etc and still had problem with it. I had same issues with traeger. I have Rec Teq now and it’s 100% better than the others. The problem you will have is that they are not carried in stores they are direct sale from Rec Teq. I don’t know where you live but maybe somebody on this forum who has a Rec Teq and lives in your vicinity will let you take a look at theres. The Rec Teq is worth every penny and there customer service cannot be beat

I have a Daniel Boone now for a year today and love it. It’s my first pellet pooper. When this one does run out of warranty I’m going to a Yoder!

I'm a new Recteq owner (RT-590) but not new to smoking and smokers. This thing is amazing. I read about the happy customers for a year or more when considering what my next smoker would be and now I see what. The build quality and materials are second to none. The app is perfect and well-thought-out and includes every feature you'll want unlike the competitors who seem to treat the app as an afterthought even though it's the primary point of contact for just about every user and the reason you pay a premium for smokers these days. Take a long look at them and you'll probably come to the same conclusion I did before I pulled the trigger.

No complaints with any of my Camp Chef products and their customer service is first-rate. They also have a bunch of features on them (ash cleanout, pellet drain, add-on attachments) that some of the pricier brands don't offer.

It is funny how some of the things that attracted me to Yoder can also be a pain. I guess one of the most important things about a pellet grill is to clean the ignitor and firepot after every cook. The Yoder is easy to take apart to clean but the parts are heavy. Sometimes I think how nice an ash cleanout would be.
