Well I guess I now have dust to spare. I had 10 lbs of pellets sitting on the deck in a covered bucket, however the lid was not snapped down as tight as I thought it was. We had strong storms roll thru this morning. Got home from work and found the lid blown off and a bucket full of bloated pellets. I guessing I can let them dry naturally and use them as dust later on, or at least I hope so. Thankfully That was only half my stash. I will be alot more careful from here on out.

Any other suggestions or will this work ?

Dust works good....   smash them up, put on a sheet pan in your oven at 225-250 overnight...    dry dust in the AM....  smokes colder than pellets...  good for cheese....

Thanks Dave ! I might have gotten a little lucky there. I have been reading a little more on cold smoking and cheeses. Saves me from buyimg dust.

I checked it a little better and it looks like just the top couple inches bloated up. I think I'll sift them out somehow and put in alum pans and let them bake in the smoker. The house AC is out and I really don't want to use the hichen oven if I can avoid it.

Will 275 be safe or should I keep it down to 225-250 ? I saw where the dust had self ignited or jumped rows in one thread, but they were in a AMNPS and very close to the element. Mine will be in disposable pans and on racks.

275 is fine.... It's the temp I use when I put the pellets in my smoker to dry....
Dave, I've never tried dust in my AMNPS.  Is there any special technique involved?

MrT grinds pellets into dust and uses it in his AMNPS....  I don't recall anything special you need to do...   He likes to cooler burn.....

I have been running dust in my amnps on the recommendation from mr T. It works well I started a batch of bacon yesterday and had the amnps burning over 13 hours. The fire outlasted me. I just grind the pellets in an old food processor.
