The 'ol adage still is viable today: "You get what you pay for." Do your home work, know what features you need/want and their priority. Some things to consider: ability to dump pellets from hopper; grease trap outside ie drop bucket or inside the unit (can be important if you have critters in the area); type of ignition as some fail more readily; grate size based upon how many people you might feed; size of pellet hopper; grade of stainless used (min 304); low temp high smoke setting; shutdown mode that consumes the pellets in the firebox before shutting off; space and height at each rack level vs the protein you're smoking. Lastly, I would suggest you stay with a well known brand that continually has very positive feedback. FYI there are brands that continually generate customer complaints. Good place to start would be looking at Recteq.
I did some reasearch a few years ago into the best pellet spitter for the money I wanted to expend and at that time it was CampChef 24 inch.
Has pellet dump and external grease spiggot.
I used it a lot for two years then bought a Masterbuilt gravity rig.
After the masterbuilt I bought a cheap offset stickburner and re-learned how to drive it.
Now it's too HOT to burn sticks and babysit fires so I drug out the old CampChef and have started using it again.
Still works strong, FWIW.
Like others have said, there are many good choices available. My 1st pellet grill was a Green Mountain Daniel Boone it broke down during covid and the repair parts were back ordered. So I invested in a RecTeq 1250. The RT is an amazing cooker, I'm glad I got it. I've nothing bad to say about the Green Mountain either, it served me well for over 8 years. When the part arrived I made the repair and sold it. I would go with a RecTeq.
