Clickin around on YouTube today and stumbled across this Kamado Joe that's pellet fired. I wonder how consistent they can hold that super low combustion due to the overall efficiency of the kamado design. I didn't see any other information on this thing. Anyone else hear of this yet?

interesting.

As the owner of a Rec Tec 590 and a Kamado Joe Classic, I'm glad to see Kamado Joe throw it's hat into the ring.

It looks like a winner. Has WiFi. Can't wait to see what kinds of reviews it gets when it comes out.

I can't wait to see some reviews on this bastard child kamado too. I am sure it will stir up some passionate debate. May have to sell the traeger to make room for one of these fellas.

Personally, I just can't see this working very well. A Ceramic Kamado is so efficient with fuel use, I can't see how enough pellets would burn to get any flavor. It only has an 8lb hopper, so it obviously doesn't use many pellets during a cook. I just think the 2 types of cooking can't be combined this way and I own a Big Joe, as well as a Timberline 1300.

I agree with you. I'm interested how they plan to manage such a small fire, and overall what will the smoke performance be like.
Costs have kept me from getting into a kamado of some sort. I still enjoy using my weber kettle.

The “Black Olive” pellet burning Kamado was apparently a predecessor to this newly planned Kamado Joe pellet burning Kamado.

A google search of it will reveal that it didn’t sell well either.

I think there were two predecessors. As I recall, the Black Olive didn't sell well for a few reasons. It was hard to justify the high price. The convenience of a pellet feed system to allow for long cooks and steady temps is just not needed on a komado which can already run unattended for long hours. And the Black Olive( or maybe the other one) didn't even have a temp sensor - just ran the auger on a timer. Finally, the promise of wood smoked food didn't pan out - as already mentioned the amount of wood burn was so small it didn't generate enough smoke to produce any flavor. Curious if the new one solves that problem.
