I haven't used the party q but i have the cyberq with a wsm 22.5. Wouldn't trade it for anything. Rock solid temperature and i can sleep during long cooks
10 4 i just wired my DIY electric smoker with the Fireboard not only can i go to sleep i can leave the house go to another state and still have full control including adj, temp and even shut it off

Dave not really sure if you need one for a UDS. I had Pitmaster IQ but got rid of it because my UDS usually stayed within 10-15 degrees.
I mostly liked smoking chicken on my UDS which is a short smoke anyway.

PartyQ BBQ Temperature Controller
Thinking of getting one for my UDS.... Any feedback would be appreciated..

........... Party Q controller ........
I have one. I used it for my WSM 22. One big complaint: it is battery specific, it only uses Engerizer Industrial AA batteries. I contacted the company and told them about my issue when trying Duracell or any other battery brand and they stated Engerizer Industrial is recommended. Only place I could find these type of battery is Fastenal with a bulk package purchase. So I upgraded to Digiq bbq guru. Hope this helps in your decision.

My brother just got one for his komodo. Before he had trouble keeping temp, under 300 i suggested the part Q . He did 3 racks of ribs with it used the 3,2,1 method and said party Q keep temp, @ 240 the whole 6 hours.

Any word on using special batteries ????

The DigiQ was my second choice... I like the hose attachment feature... Although, I did like the versatility of a battery unit which made the drum smoker "mobile" so to speak...

My kids will want to use it... I'm concerned they won't have the patience of adjusting the ball valve...

Good to know.... Any problems getting batteries ???

I like that unit....
Pitmaster IQ . This fella is local to St. Louis , and is / was a neighbor of a guy I know . This was featured on Alton Brown good eats if you want to look for the episode . I've talked to him briefly , just an idea him and his Dad came up with . Not sure of their back ground , but I know it works .

I used PartyQ, didn't like it, too weak for bigger grills and can run wild on a kettle; then a PitmasterIQ 110, it worked well, but I wanted more automation (instead of manually set the damper) and wireless. So I made my own. I started by making my probes faster because all the food probes on the market today are not responsive enough. Then I replaced the PID controller with the Arduino chip, which is open source and more programmable. I was a fan of Marantz receivers, so I used two OLED displays with a big dial coz I thought that was the coolest thing about these receivers. The menu navigation and temperature setup were like the 3D printer we have in the shop (I make motorcycle racing parts for a living), now instead of pushing buttons for dozens of times, all you have to do is click, dial and click.
Geeks make best BBQ!

Interesting... Hell, I can't spell half the words you used let alone build anything electronic... I envy those with electronic IQ's...
