My name is Travis, I'm an engineer living in MD. I grew up on a beef farm in PA, and although I grilled a lot of beef, I wasn't exposed to the art of real bbq until a year or so ago. I recently stumbled upon this site, and decided it was time to start smoking. After checking out a lot of the beginner info, I had my first smoke last weekend. I bought a master forge heavy duty charcoal grill, also called the dually I believe. On saturday our power was out, so I had a great reason to clear out all meat in our fridge. Started the day with smoked sausage, using it as a temperature trial of sorts. Then went on to some beef ribs I had had marinating for two days, then some pork butt steaks. Everything turned out pretty darn good. My fiance is my official taste tester, and she gave it her stamp of approval. Need to make some changes to my setup. And adjust my rub a little. Lot's to learn!... I'll post pictures of the setup and first attempts as soon as I can.
