Question. I am building a small outdoor kitchen area. The centerpiece will probably be a Memphis smoker. I like to steam as well as deep fry so I will also have a high powered gas spot for a large pot. I have a large Webber that is upstairs near the kitchen that I use for quick and when it’s cold. The question is that I also have a big green egg. I can either incorporate it into the downstairs outdoor kitchen or sell it to help fund the Memphis. Do you think I would ever use it sitting next to the Memphis? (Also would be interested in possible alternatives to the Memphis. Really like it though the price is large.)

I would keep it, I also am a hoarder lol .

You came to the wrong group to ask for this advice. I agree - keep it. Man a green egg is an awesome cooker.

My name is texomakid and I am a hoarder of smokers..............

The BGE is there, it's paid for, it's a great smoker with loads of versatility that'll do just about everything. I'd keep it for sure. RAY

When I bought my Lang I considered selling all my other smokers, I did sell a few, but I still have 3, and today it’s supposed to rain so I’m smoking ribs, beans & brats in my Smoke Vault that is under cover in case the sky falls in.
If I were you I would keep it. You can always sell it at a later date if you decide you don’t use it anymore.

I'm a hoarder too, but hoarding only applies to books and papers. :emoji_wink: An inventory of tools is more properly called wisdom.
So by all means keep a variety of cooking tools.
Plus (and I'm quite serious about this) a green egg is truly pleasant to the eye, and has a definite uniqueness to it. And I don't just mean to BBQ forum nuts, but to normal people as well. I think you'll find family members won't complain (too much) if you keep it.
And give some thought to how you can arrange things so there's some artistic flare to the grouping. If you have zero skills in that area, ask someone who seems to "get it".

I kept my egg and while I don’t smoke with it much anymore it still makes one of the best grills and high temp steak cookers you can buy. I use a vortex and place a wood chunk on the hot metal for a reverse sear steak and it’s ruined all other methods.

not sure I’d go out of my way to buy one today but I won’t get rid of it now that I have it. I recently rebuilt it with a new hinge kit and gasket and it should go another 10 yeas easy

My Daughter accuses me of keeping a bbq graveyard in our back acreage. She says in a few hundred years there going to dig up all these grills, smokers and fire pits and think an entire society lived here. Personally id keep the ceramic egg. It will likely outlast any other smoker, grill or cooker you end up buying. The metal grills end up rusting out after a few years pretty much no matter what you do. If you keep it count how many years it lasts in comparison...
