Right there with sumo. Anywhere I see a big bag, whether I need it or not, and if it's a decent price, I get it. I can always find chips, but I run low on chunks a lot, so I keep up the stock. Have caught myself going by the charcoal section anywhere I go just to check...
Hi Dirtman775,
I am going out on a limb here assuming and all, however I think it depends on where you live...Like here by me, I can not get wood chunks at the super market. I can get basic chunks at Home Depot, basic I mean hickory or mesquite. If I want oak, cherry or something of that nature, I have to go to BBQ's Galore....and pay a fortune! Not to much of a demand out here I guess.....
Happy smoking!
Make buddy-buddy with a local tree trimmer. Find out when he's cutting something worth smoking. He'll either sell it to you cheap or even let you have it if you haul it. Make sure you keep him fed, and he'll keep callin'.
Thanks for the tip...I just check the net, I have never heard of the Sportsman Warehouse before...the closest one to me is a couple hundred miles away....I guess thats why I wasn't familiar with them..
I will however check them out the next road trip to VEGAS....thx again

I use Wally-World, or cut it myself. WalMart, Lowes, and Home Depot always seem to have Hickory or Mesquite chuncks in stock regularly. (Except when you really need them)
I'm with Geek too... I have access to all the cherry, apple, almond and pear I can store. If you have any orchards in your area just stop by and see if you can get any of their pruning. The only thing I have to buy now is hickory and mesquite.
If they are in your area, check out Cabela's, Bass Pro shoppe or Gander Mt.-Sportsman's Warehouse sometimes carries wood chunks and chips but lately, it's been hit and miss at the one in my area.
hey fellas found a place for the smokin wood mainegillingwoods.com took the plunge over the net. free shipping. picked up some apple, black cherry, maple let ya know how it goes.
