I recently had to remove an ornamental flowering crabapple tree from my yard. The landscaper cut it up for me and I am letting it dry and I would like to use it for smoking. Has anyone had any experience using this type of wood? I would think it would be the same as "Apple".

To me apple is apple. Oak is oak.

They are in the same family.

Dry and use it.

I would try it first. Maybe place some in a fire and just see what the smell is like but I from my background in Nursery do not know that this will actually burn the same as an apple tree would. It's more of an ornamental structure and could be closed to a shade type so don't burn with meat right away until your confident.

Good luck keep us informed.
