Looking for some input on a purchase.

I have been watching Craigslist for a small stick burner for a while and this popped up just outside the area (~50 miles). It is clearly an american made model is it worth rehabbing for this price? I leaning yes but would greatly appreciate any input.

I would sand and paint the outside and probably sand and oil the inside. Is this right?

The outside cosmetics are of no importance. Go to Hope Mills and take a look at it. If the metal isn't rusted through, buy it unless close inspection reveals some serious flaws. You'll spend a few $ on wire brushes, sandpaper, and high temp paint. Possibly will need gaskets replaced. All doable. Biggest potential problem I see is the bed of old ashes in the firebox. That could have caused serious corrosion if it was wet and sat there for a long time.

Yeah.. nice big fire box on that puppy.
Looks big enough for feeding a crowd.
