So I was over at the propane shop earlier and happened to ask the owner if he had any tanks he could let go of.  he said yeah and took me out back to a huge lot of tanks.  Potential smokers as far as the eye could see.  We went over to a corner and there were no less than 8 500 gallon tanks.  He said none of them had date plates on them so they could not be used.  He said he would let them go for $100 each.  I almost fell over.  They were all in great shape too.  No rust.  He said without that plate they are nothing more than scrap metal and the scrap yard wouldn't even give him $50 for them.  He said anytime I want them to just bring a trailer and he would load them up.  As we walked back across the yard, I noticed many other tanks without plates as well.  So needless to say I am in the hunt for a trailer that will haul 2 500 gallon smokers.  Any ideas on ho big it would need to be?  Any body need a 500 gallon tank?

That sounds great..... I may need to get with our local dealers to see what they have. ....... On the way to Bartow there looks to be a tank graveyard and there is one by Rockledge too......... So if I can ever get the one I am working on done.... I may be trying the crazy idea for a porch model for smaller cooks.....

Trailer for your 500 gallon boys will be huge......

IMHO...I don't think you could build it for $2,500

It's a Good Buy at $2,500

Wow, I think I just drooled a little......... You're only about 4.5 hrs from me. I was thinking about a 120 gal. I found here in ATL for $60 for my next build, but man oh man! Next question is... how do I talk my wife into this?

Kenny, that really is a great deal on that unit.  I know he couldn't have built it for that.  It is a really nice cooker.

Wildman, my wife is already on board.  I just have to get a trailer that will support two of them even if it is temporary while I find or build a permanent one.  I found several on Craigslist in this area but none as good a deal as these.  And they are less than a mile from home.  I also know a gut with a 250 gallon for $50.

JarJar, it will be a big trailer, but you know twin beasts like this would be a site to behold.  I could feed a battalion with those things.  I need to start some calculations for the trailer size and weight.  The truck I will need to haul it.  Etc.  I haven't been able to stop thinking about it!!

I just noticed your address..I am about 12 miles from ya>>>

Heck no Rib.  This is going to be my super ginormous big party smoker.  You know the one I take to small get togethers of no less than 1000 people.  I could cook over 200 rib dinners or 3000 pulled pork sandwiches in one cook.  Or how about 250 steak dinners.  It might take a while to get it built, but this thing is going to be a full on catering rig.  Come on man.  We're in the south.  Either go big or go home!!!

Well how about that?  You know my family is from Westville.  I spent my youth there on my grandparents place.  Nice to know there is someone with common interests so close by.
