My Sam's Club got a shipment of Carver hams two weeks ago. These guys usually are only stocked between Thanksgiving and Christmas, and as many of you know.... I make annual holiday gifts with them.

So, on an impulse... I stocked up with Easter in mind. Frankly, at ~$13/each these are roughly 1/3 the price of a Hallmark card, and taste a lot better. 😄

Today, I smoked my first ham for Easter gifting, and one for us. I have 5 more to go with various delivery dates, extending all the way to mid-May for a family reunion. The first one is lighter on the smoke (as requested), and the second one is kissed with hickory. Thanks for lookin'.

They look great! Finally got to use my raincheck from a year ago... got my Carver ham for 99 cents a lb.

Looks Yummy. We have a Costco membership but not a Sam's club. We have a large Sam's club nearby next to Walmart but I have never gone in to try it out.

Just a serious question. I’ve heard a lot around here about the Carver ham. I’ve tasted a bunch of the other brands such as Smithfield, Sugar Dale, Farmland, and Frick’s. But never a Carver, so what sets them apart? I’m not even sure I’ve ever seen one in a store locally.

Carver is not the brand, it is the type. It is just a boneless ham. Makes for easy slicing. The size is also smaller than a typical bone in ham.

Thanks for asking, I was wondering too LOL. We like Sugardale.

We're firmly ham for Easter folks. Only "city or wet ham" (normally Sugardale) but need to try one of these. Throwing a good "cook smoke" sounds tasty too. I really like the look of that slight char! thirdeye thirdeye

So no other seasoning just smoke?
I sprinkle cracked pepper on most of them, but it's more for appearance.

I smoked a couple for a friends wedding anniversary and he made a glaze recipe with sugar, honey, butter and maple syrup. He had a little bottle so people could drizzle it on slices.

Thanks for the kind words. The char is something I watch really close.

My notoriously picky eater niece's favorite thing in the world is my spiral ham that I add a Dr. Pepper sugar glaze to and smoke for 3-4 hours. It takes an already great ham to the sublime level.
