I applied for a job at a local hospital. They asked when they could contact my present employer. I told them once a job offer was made they could. Well, I guess they thought they had made a job offer because once they got the reference letter from the hospital they fired me, lol. Anyway, I expected this to happen so I'm just gonna enjoy my time off. Just had to vent, Greg

GT contact the Human Resources Dept at the hospital and tell them what happened and maybe the job offer will come a little faster to make up for thier mistake

yeah...........thats the pain, when they ask if they can check with your present employer........its happened to me.........

if nothing else, you can get unemployment, cause they did NOT fire you for cause...........

Not sure about other states, but it's illegal in California. I too would contact the new employer to see if they can speed things up. And if, God forbid, you don't get the new job, you need to talk to a labor attorney.

Contact your State Labor Board. They should have a grievience process and arbitrators. You could end up getting your lost wages and the employer may be fined.

That depends on what state your in I know in Florida a worker has no rights and works at the bosses whim and can be terminated at any time for any reason or no reason. I should clarify they have rights but not when it comes to being terminated.

California has "at Will" employment too, but you stil have to be fired for just cause. At will doesn't mean at whim!!

yea, they can fire you anytime but without documentation of proper procedure you can and should collect unemployment.

Thanks All!!! I appreciate all the support. I totally expected that this would happen if they got news I had another job. I'll get paid this Friday for the work I did last week as well as a monthly bonus that I hit a couple of weeks ago. Then, a week from Friday I'll get all my vacation time. So, I'm set for a while.

I did call the VA and let her know what happened. She was appalled and said she had my file laying right there. She was waiting on the mail to see if the few things she needed were in it. If not, she was going to make it her #1 priority and get all the other info. she needed yesterday. She says it will be done and ready for approval today. So, hopefully the new job will come soon.

I did file for unemployment but expect I'll start the new job before I can collect. I sure would like to have them bastages be forced to at least pay a little for being such jerks.

I'm actually going to Tulsa today to spend a few days with my folks. I don't get to see them often so I thought I'd take advantage of my down time. I've already mowed/weedeated the yard, cleaned the pool etc. I do need to clean a bit before I leave but other than that I'm set.

Back from my folks. I filed my first unemployment claim today but it's currently in limbo since I got fired. I guess they have a chance to dispute it.

Anyway, things are good. I expect to be called for my drug test/physical at the VA this week. Maybe I'll be at work a week from Monday. We'll see what happens. Take care all.

P.S. - tune in for q-view tomorrow of some country style ribs, a seared brisket, a fatty and some salmon.
