Old wood

Im a first time smoker and have 3 bags of wood chips that are at least 10 yrs old. Are these still ok to use in my smoker? Thanks for your help,I don't want to ruin my first smoking of pork butt.

It's apple so I thought it would be ok

If it hasn't got wet, or had condensation in the bag and created mold, you should be fine.  Open a bag and do a sniff test.  If it smells musty at all, trash it

This spring I found a box of apple chips my grandpa had save that was about 30 years old. It smelled alright until I fired up the smoker. The smoke smelled musty so I pitched it.

Try it, let it smoke a little and smell the smoke before you put any food in. You'll know right away.
