Hey All,

I have always wanted to get into smoking and i recently came in to an old comercial double door portable oven (its on wheels) from a school district kitchen. Dimentions are 4ft x 3ft x 2ft. Heating element is broke.

I think it would be a great to convert into a smoker but i am not sure how to go about it.

I dont know what the best conversion could be gas, electric or wood fire. I dont want to spend a bunch of money and butcher the oven too bad only to realize later that it was a mistake.

Any help would be great.

Zack

Hey welcome, stop by roll call , it a tradition...As for your oven is there a broiler element in it you could use or swithc with the other??

Zack, post some pictures of the thing so we see what we have to work with. Been's it's electric already I'd probably stick with that. Next gotta find a way of gettin some smoke in that box. Here again, pictures will help a bunch.

Good luck.

Thanks for the info. Ill try to get some pictures up some time soon but i have the thing in storage right now since winter never ends here. 6+ inches of snow this morning! Hopefully we will get some good weather and i can get it outside to work on it.
thanks again,
Zack
