Hey guys.

I was given an old fridge smoker that I was using 2 hotplates in and having issues mainting temps in the winter months.

So I converted to propane using a side burner out of my older bbq.

Now I see you guys with these nice mesh looking racks but cant seem to find what kind of metal that is you are using...

Also wondering what all is safe for putting wood chips in for smoking...

I was considering a meat loaf tray but was unsure aboutt he non stick coating...

Thanks a ton, will post some pics when I get it completed...Nothing fancy like what I see on here but will smoke meat, and thats what matters for me..

Jardo,

My first chip tray I made out of sheet metal. I just went and bought a cheap sheet at Lowes cut it with some shears and bent it into a box. put some chip is and put just above my flame. Should work just fine.

The mesh racks are kitchen cooling racks. The heavier metal is expanded steel, purchased through sheet metal suppliers on line. Do not use any metal with a non-stick coating.. or galvanized.
