hi!
I have the Oklahoma joes Longhorne combo grill.
I recently bought this, the halftime starter xl:

My questions are:

A-Can I load up the halftime starter with charcoal+ wood pellets and set it in the offset smoker, and light it and smoke that way?

B-if not, what’s the purpose of this thing?

C-I read it’s a good idea to put a pan of water in offset smoker ?

The purpose of this thing is to get all the charcoal lit & then you dump that hot charcoal into the grill's charcoal chamber. This is a type of tool category called a "Charcoal Chimney" & they just get the charcoal lit much quicker than lighting the charcoal inside the chamber itself. Hopefully that makes sense.

As to why yours is called the XL, that is because it is bigger than the average chimney.

Thanks! So I just bought this:

So I guess I’d use the Halftime XL thing to get the charcoal started and then I’m out them in this box and put it in the smoker for the duration?

Also, how would I know if it’s hot enough to put into the smoker? The coals. And I assume just wood chips wouldn’t work? Id need to have coal in the halftime and box?

Yeah, you fill up the Halftime with charcoal or lump charcoal, place a couple of tumbleweeds under it for an easy start and when the top coals start turning gray dump them in your new box.

Thanks all! One last one for ya, I recently found these -2 of them-pics attached.

Can this replace the choarcoal firebox I just bought? And I should return the firebox or am I wrong by saying that?
