Taking a close look at one of these. What's the general consensus? Pros and cons?
Interesting design, haven't seen this one before and assume it’s new? There are a few of us on here who run gravity fed smokers, I think most are using the first master built series.

Chargriller makes a gravity fed as well.

As far as the cook quality, mine cooks some of the best food I’ve ever made. Real good smoker. Generally speaking I say yes to gravity fed. I don’t think you’ll be disappointed. As for a specific model, I’d say pick the one that you think is best for you and send it.

Some things you might want to consider:
  • Master built is onto at least their second generation of gravity fed smokers, so they’ll have worked a lot of the kinks out that those of us running first gen units have had to deal with. If this is OK Joe’s first foray into gravity fed, expect some teething issues.
  • I’m not sure what I think about the slanted hopper. One way I get a really good smoke flavor on my gravity fed is by taking an entire hickory split and putting it vertically in the chute, and then surround it with charcoal. This way I’m always rolling smoke. when I started doing this over chunks like they recommend the amount if smoke I got onto the meat went way up. I highly recommend it, and not sure you’d be able to do this with the slanted hopper design.
  • I’d also worry a little bit that charcoal might not always fall into the fire box off the slant, but I assume they’ll have tested this
