No, they are just sitting there.

Got my mind thinking about another big pit, kind of a 120 gallon reverse flow with propane burners added so that its a grill as well.  Real compact in design but extreme detail.   Saw a Meadow creek smoker and it got me thinking, you know how it is.

Ok, getting back to this build.

Pulled valves on 33lb tanks and have them soaking.

Decided against using 20lb tanks as firebox. Id rather fabricate  square firebox's out of 1/4" plate.

I want to use a basket instead of a fire grate so that the basket can be slide forward out of the firebox on ralis and the fire started out side of the firebox with a chimney starter. Will incorperate a quarter size baking sheet as an ash pan so that no ashes or cinders can hit the ground.

Remember, the design is for use on a townhouse porch, has to be cleaner than a big party pit. Still going to keep it as true to a reverse flow design as possible.

Will start firebox tonight and have some pics soon.

Finally got started, Here is the firebox I started last night. Going to attach fire basket to the door and have it open up like a mail box.

Fiveflat, morning.... A few things to consider when building a smoke attached in the link below....  Also starting a new thread on your plans will keep it from getting lost in this thread....  Dave

Fiveflat, Im going to make this as close to a true reverse flow as possible. Just with some cool little details that will make it neat to put on the back porch at my Orlando townhouse. Like I said, just the right size to do one slab of ribs or one butt at a time.  Sometimes you dont want to fire up a huge smoker.

Hows that smoker of your cook?  You using wood or charcoal?

Part of me really wants to make this a small patio horizontal RF for the same reasons...

I've used both charcoal and wood.  I did charcoal when I did a Turkey but here's a 2# pork butt over walnut after 5 hours at 220-230.  It holds the temp extremely well.

Thanks Jar,

Progress is a little slow due to time of year and trying to get some dolphin fishing in. But should have some new pics latter this week.

My firebox looks a little out of proportion, a lil too big. ...but I wanted a fire basket attached to the door, I wanted an ash pan, and I wanted the basket to have plenty of room for air to flow around it and the box to be high enough the flames did not hit the top of the box.......

Maybe once I get the tank all dressed up with hinges and handles and the stack on it...maybe it will look a little more in proportion...maybe

I cut the lid more to the top since this will be pretty short and I'll be looking more down onto it. The door is 16 inches wide, and the cooking chamber is 12" from front to back. With a rib rack , I might be able to do 3 slabs. I think a turkey will fit nice in here as well.

It might not be my best looking build, but I think #20 is going to cook good,......maybe, well see.

Im ready for some input everyone...

That looks very good. I always like seeing what people are building. Then when I can ever get one going I will a ton of pictures and ideas to go with.

I am assuming the reason for the fire not reaching the top is for warping?

So based on that it would be better for a fire box to be taller than wider or long? Is that a safe assumption?

I dont like the fire to hit the top ..A= so it breath's better,......B= So it dont burn the paint off.......C= So it does not get the reverse flow plate so hot at that end (  I usually attach the reverse flow plate to the top of the box)

Hey Ribwizzard

That build is looking sweet. I am hoping to do a very similar build so I can take it camping with me. Nice and small but could still get an amazing meal out of it. I look forward to seeing the finished product. Great Job
