wow when you try something you think won't work or work like you think it will....i bought a bag of kingsford hickory (sorry mesqu) charcol and used bout 40/45 bricks to see what my lid mounted thermo read compaired to my oven thermo on the cooking rack to start off without any mods done to my char broil bullet smoker w/SFB....i laid the charcol in a ring with a hole in the middle on the flat rack it came with and after i had 10 bricks burned down to ash grey i put them in the hole....bottom intake wide open along with the exhaust stack and oven thermo on meat rack, 15 minutes later i had a temp of 150f on the lid thermo and 135f on the rack thermo....not to bad of a temp difference from the two....in another 15 minutes i had 205f on the lid thermo and 195f at the rack, only 10 degree diff....that temp held for 2 hours before the coals started to die out, and i had that great looking TBS bellowing out of the stack with that kings mesqu charcol
....can't wait to get those mod's done now..........bob
