but i had to share anyway ~

i only caught a couple of small bullheads (think of catfish that are even uglier than catfish), but the youngster here caught the biggest fish of the day, and on a "little tyke" fishing pole with a plain lead-head jig tipped with a chunk of nightcrawler, no less. i must be getting old, i get more satisfaction out of seeing him catch this than if i would have caught it myself.

call me a proud dad today with a hell of a good lifetime memory.

Smoke the @$#%^.

I bet he has some pretty darn good life time memories as well!
thanks for sharing cuz that is what this smoking family is all about!!

smoke it, fry it, while still fresh.......i guess to late for that now, what did u do with it?? nice sauger!!! i need to get one a them rods!!!!

thanks, guys -

we usually smoke all our trout and a lot of northern pike; then prepare perch, walleye etc. some other way. with this, we might smoke it to see what it's like!

right now, it was filleted the moment it died from a blow to the head and then waterpacked in the freezer at zero degrees, so it's just about as fresh as can be. if we don't smoke it, then we'll probably use one of these two excellent recipes (see links below):

since sauger is so closely-related to walleye, i imagine either recipe will work great!

That be what this neighborhood is about, sharin our stories, perfectin the craft an teachin them youngins so's the old ways don't get lost!

Tell that feller he done good!

Nice fish and good eatin. Yup, smoke that thing, and don't forget to cut out the cheek meat too and smoke it. Nice little snack.
