My SIL said hey lets get a couple goats.

Ok cool.

So we bought a couple young Boerbok Goats. He built the area and pen. Built big enough for a couple cows too...lol

Cool! I like the repurposing of materials!

And speaking of goats- I heard one the other day while shopping at Tractor Supply.....

2 guys were talking... One of the guys finally found the part he was looking for after going to 3 other stores. Upon finding it, he said, "I'm as happy as an alligator in a pond on a fainting goat farm!!!!" LOL!!!!

Nice! My sister got a pair of goats. They are a meat breed but no plans to eat them.
HOWEVER, 1 of the goats seems to repeatedly try to get itself killed by getting stuck in fences, stuck halfway up trees, etc. etc.

It is going to get stuck in a weird way or end up hanging itself somehow and I guess that is when goat gets on the menu lol :)

A mile down the road from a hunting ranch my buddy and I leased for 15 years was a place where someone was raising American Meat goats. One day I guess a fence broke and there were at least a hundred of them on the road to the ranch, maybe 200. When we got to our ranch gate there were a few really fat ones inside the fence. I put a bullet in one's head, threw into the jeep, hauled it to the gutting tree, and then to the skinning shed. I hung it a couple of cool days, then parted it out into game bags and tossed them into a 165 quart ice chest full of frozen OJ jugs. Once home I aged the meat in my garage fridge for about three weeks. I love venison and lamb, and the meat from that fat goat was one of the best things my partner and I have ever enjoyed, not a bite went to waste, it was delicious! I whacked a lama near the ranch too, edible, not near as tasty. RAY

Brotherinlaw next door has raised and traded/sold goats for a long time, he had some that I swear would holler my name when they seen me 🤣 , the red and white boara goats are supposed to be the best eating but never got to try any unless there was some at the Indian restaurants over the years. I love deer meat and probably not a lot of difference in the 2 depending on diet .

I've only eaten goat in Indian curries, and even with all those spices, want a fan of the flavor of the meat. Tested like a goat smells.

Several people have told me recently if I like lamb, I'd love goat. Thinking about it.

tallbm tallbm , we have dairy goats and it seems to be in goats nature to try to kill themselves...

I've eaten goat mostly Mexican barbacoa style and also in a few Indian Curries and both were good though I prefer the Mexican style.

I'm cool with real lamb but in the USA it seems our lamb gets closer to mutton (sheep meat) than it does to lamb meat. I think they try to walk the edge of bigger for more meat and often get too close to mutton. I prefer leg of lamb over any other part.
Goat is lean and the Mexican or Indian ways address that with heavy seasoning and sauce which works wonders for it.

Hahaha glad to know about the goats. My sister has always wanted a pair of goats, she may have to go through a few to find 2 that will be smart enough to live hahahaha :D

In the US, the definition of lamb is extended all the way to mutton. Other countries have lamb, hogget and mutton in order of increasing age. What is sold here would be called hogget in most other countries.

Personally I love the flavor of hogget. We butcher sheep at 1.5 years old.

Our fat wether dairy goats may be walking a thin line. They better hope I find cheap hay before winter... Lol.
