Newly built smoker.....need advice

Hello everyone, I have been wanting to build a smoker for a long time and have finally done it. I have a propane burner and will need more racks obv but I’m wondering what kind of pan works best for the chips to be In? Should I be placing tiles around the burn area?

looks like a nice build. not sure on the type of pan ya should use but I think I would put something around the burn area just to be safe, maybe a piece of metal or tiles like ya said.

I would defiantly put a barrier around the burn area, You can use a simple cast iron pan. Walmart sells on for cheap I believe like 12 bucks. I did a Dutch Oven Cast iron but for other reasons

Thank you, I did put an aluminum barrier around it. I also decided on a cast iron Dutch oven it works great!!
