newb question in wood chips

hello i have a masterbuilt model 20070712 im trying to season it ive never smoked before .when i put chip in smoke box do i start the ships on fire and do i put the lid on the smoke box

Just put the chips in the box, place the cover on and position in the correct location in the smoker. Allow the heat of the smoker to slowly heat the chips to their smoke-point. It may take 10-15 minutes for the smoker's heat source to heat-up the smoke box and chips, so be patient.
