So I browse kickstarter quite often in the first place finding random new things but, this really peaked my interests.

Here is a link.

It is a Sous vide machine but not a inclosed machine like the ones norally sold on amazon for a little over 300. I have done sous vide before but on the  cheap by tempering a good cooler and then using hot water to stay around the tempature I am looking for.  Not the best way but it works and has turned out some great steaks from quite cheap cuts.  Also the residing juices from the bags work great to make sauces.

The thing that really got me with this one is I can use it on any sized pot up to around 5 gallons.  Will be able to fit quite a bit of food in that much water. Needless to say I dropped the cash and helped fund this I will not get it untill december this year so the waiting starts which is already killing me.  So once I get my machine I will be doing a write up as there are some of us who I am sure will be interested in how it works.  As far as using this in conjunction with smoking my main idea is to use the smoker to impart the flavor into sauces ie veggies that will be cooked.  My other idea which depending on how the heating element is open to water is using it to finish cooking sausages in water.  I have not done this yet as I do not have turkey roaster or the such.

Have any of you guys done Sous Vide of the such?  What do you like/dislike about it?

I think that it's a cool idea, but the price point is too high, $359??? :icon_eek:
Sure, it's a bargain compared to a $1,000 unit, but it's not compared to a Sous Vide Supreme, where it's only advantages seem to be size (even though the smaller Sous Vide Deni is about the size of a bread machine) and portability. Those who like those 2 features, and have lotsa money will go for it, but for the rest of us?

At 750 watts there has to be a specific limit on how much food the thing can safely bring up to temp!?
The Sous Vide Deni that's about the same price has a limit of 8.7 liters/2.3 gallon water capacity holds 12 four-ounce portions.

$199 would be a better price point, assuming that it'll work well. IMHO.

I would agree the price point is up there I got mine for 299 as part of the kickstart program so a little better but still not cheap.  I can see this being used quite a bit for me as I normally run a ten hour work day and can set it up before I leave and just have to sear a nice steak when I get home for supper.  There are cheaper options like the one dog found but the fact that I'm helping out some fellow foodies and it seems like it should be a well built and pretty well contained I took the jump.

Should be a fun item to play in the kitchen none the less.
