I have been looking at a bunch of builds from this site and others. I want to make 24" x 24" 36" plywood smoker to do small batches of hot and cold smoking and want to be able to move it. I live in Mi so we get all kinds of weather. I was thinking of running stove pipe out the side and connecting it to a small drum for wood burning. My two questions are, is this size to small for a smoker and is this style of heating good for this size. Any help would be great, I really would like to see people's smaller plywood smokers.

I have a full size one, but am interested in the answers too.  I've envisioned a build the same size with the Amazen smoke unit for cold smoking which would be simple.  However, to be able to inject controlled heat into it would be another challenge without burning it up.

Old school, that link was a huge help! I never thought to use a burn barrel. I am having a harder time keeping heat as this MI winter comes. Do you think my little plywood smoker will work and should I insulate it.

Oldschool I may come down to see ya.  I may be in need of help.  I Have my first plywood smoker built!  Pictures to come tommorow! Im over all happy with the box but Im not sure what im going to do for legs so I just attached 2 x 4 for the legs to get me by.  I plan on cleaning it up tomorrow and finish the caulking.   I think if I were to do it over again I would of done a box for a burner it may be easier then a fire.  My next question is im going to attempt to do a pork butt or shoulder on Sat.  This may be a silly question, but im new to wood burning and need to know the basics.  What hardwood should I get and is it easy to find?  I have not searched the site yet but planning on doing that next
