Ordered a new smoker to replace my rusted out chargriller & my broken MES. I wanted a BGE but with 3 children in school even a weber smoky mountain was not an option. I got a char-broil double chef smoker from eBay. It should be in early next week & I'll gives a report

Can't wait to see the report!

Get them thar' kids an after-school job dagnabbit!

Great to have you along. I've never had one, but I think an egg is more hype than anything. I expect you'll be turning out some pretty good grub in no time with your new rig.

Looks nice! I've never seen that one before. I was looking at it on Char-broil's website. One thing though, if that's the same ash catcher that I have on my Char-broil kettle grill your going to hate it. The dampers get stuck in the catcher itself. Very poor design and are hard to adjust. The kettle itself is awesome though, I love it!

Welcome to the SMF. Congrats on the new purchase, let us know what you think, and be sure to take some pics of your smokes.

I "won " the smoker on eBay sun pm & it arrived at my house on wed I put it together last nite. Seems to be well built for the money. I built a small fire in it today to season it. It's airtight enough that after seasoning it iclosed all the vents & the fire went out. I've already decided I need a better temp guage, a larger water pan & I may use that charcoal basket from my chargriller. Isn't gettting a new grill fun!

lostarrow, how is the smoker? Have you had a chance to try it?

For my first cook on my double-chef I cooked a small butt. Put 5 lbs of kingsford & 4 oak chunks in the firepan, put about 20 lit briquettes & let her go. I got 9 hour burn between 220 & 260 without adding fuel. The butt was good. Although for many cooks tending the horizonal smoker is an enjoyable part of the smoke there are times that I wanted a cooker that was set & forget , I think this will fit the bill for a reasonable price
