Looking to possibly upgrade from my grandfathers smoker. I am thinking I would like electric so I can set and forget (basically). But not sure how much I want to spend (I am thinking not a lot). I don't use it that often, just a couple of times a year, but I use to to make smoked saugages, pepporini, jerkey etc...

One of the best electric setups you could ask for.
(Whoops smoker was suppose to be the 40 inch)

Thanks! Pretty easy to use then?

Pic of my setup with mailbox mod ( lots of info on this also in search forum )

I have two MB electrics. Had them way before I found this forum. The first was a bluetooth version which was fraught with issues. It's still sitting on the patio next to the other one which is still functional. I never figured out what wrong with the first. Claimed warranty with the first and HD sent me a check for enough to buy the second. The second had some control issues and it was before I found this wealth of knowledge. I found out through googling that the MB controllers had heat issues. (imagine that) removed the controller and added spacers between the controller and the top of the cabinet. I has worked fine since then.
I'll probably get jinxed for saying this but I still use it for "short jobs" where I don't want to waste charcoal in my WSM for a 1 hour cook. I mostly use it for pork bellies when making bacon or a tri-tip with low heat..\
If you don't want to go all in and make a "mailbox" attachment I would consider buying a "smoke tube".

If my current MB electric takes a poop, I'll probably buy another.

So I have the weber smoker but the electric probe version. I have used it for sausage, turkey and jerky and it has worked fine, but I constantly have to monitor it. Not sure it is worth buying a new one now or just wait.....

Don't know anything about the Weber but maybe just adding a PID similar to what I posted and you could have rock solid temp control. Just a thought.

Another possible option would be a pellet cabinet smoker. Maybe a bit more more money but the Pit Boss Sportsman or Grilla Mammoth would be something to look into. You certainly need to smoke more than a couple times a year. Look around the forum a bit. You'll start doing pork butt, briskets, bacon, chicken wings etc in no time.

Don't buy a Mammoth - mine was dead on arrival! Customer service is non existence on weekends.
