I stopped by the very dangerous Bucees they built 1 mile from my home this weekend - wouldn't you know it.... They had 2 of those Old Country Gen2 insulated smokers sitting out front. I tool a good look at it like I always do any time I see some BBQ kit. It looked pretty interesting, had some cool features like a removable deflector, included tuning plate etc. Right next to it was an O.C. Brazos DLX with a counter weighted lid etc so it was a good opportunity to compare and contrast.

If you have been looking for one of these or the DLX and you have a Bucees near, check them out. I came back the next day and snagged the G2 for a measly $1592 (retail $1899), the DLX was only $1298. They had the insulated gravity feed cabinet for about $200 more but I didn't check it out.
I started the burn out and season process today, I have to say that the control on the G2 is nice, it is so easy as an off set it wanted to run at a great temp. No doubt the insulated fire box plays a role in this. The collector is nice and the extended stack is great. I'll play with it for some time as is before I consider any changes. I'm thinking that I'll ditch the deflector though.

Welcome Home!

I'm still new to the Brazos DLX, but I'm impressed with the flavor. I also appreciate how much more attention I need to pay to it over the Masterbuilt Gravity. Of course, when I say appreciate, I really mean that I now better understand how much more work a stick burner is, but when done right... It's hard to beat. The G2 looks sweet, but that G3 is another beast altogether. That is a great price on that G2 though, enjoy!

That looks like a solid rig. Can't wait to see what comes off it.
This was a pretty old post, the thread below was the first cook I did on it. I have since added 3 thermometers, a ball valve, and ditched the deflector. I have a number of great cooks on it all posted on SMF. Should last me several decades at least. There's always that itch though..... I'd like a 300 gallon smoker on a trailer one day. This thread also has some detail pics of the G2.
