Hi folks, I'm new to this forum so I thought I'd introduce myself. I'm a relative newcomer to smoking meat, having bought a digital Bradley smoker last July. Since then its mostly been used to smoke salmon and some pork chops and chicken. With the new season upon us I'm looking forward to expanding my repertoire.
I do have a story about my Bradley unit with a special point of interest for the Canadian members out there. Last week I was doing some fish and a slab of pork belly for my first attempt at bacon. The unit seemed to take a long time to get to temperature, which didn't strike me as strange b/c it was cold and a bit windy. After taking the fish out, I inserted the digital temp probe into the bacon and checked back periodically. After a while I noted that the temp wasn't rising in the meat and then noticed that the temp in the smoker was falling. WTF?!? I took the bacon inside and finished it in the oven. Went back outside to check over the smoker. All connections were tight. Smoke/control unit was getting power but no heat was coming from the heating element! Sheesh the thing wasn't even a year old. Looked up the warranty info and there's a one year warranty.
Here's the interesting part for Canadians. I bought it at Princess Auto ( go figure) originally for a better price than any other dealer in the area. Problem: I couldn't find the original receipt. Called them up and explained my situation. Inside 30 seconds they were able to look up the transaction and told me to just bring in the old one for an immediate exchange on a new unit. No questions asked except the nature of the fault. Now that's great customer service!
Anyway, that's my story. Looking forward to getting into this website and forums to really start enjoying the new smoker.
