I'm new to smokers. I'm taking baby steps... my first smoker is a Masterbuilt 30" electric smoker, but I plan on building a vertical smoker when I get a little experience under my belt. I feel very fortunate that my father-in-law is great with his smoker and is willing to mentor me on my new endeavor.
My maiden voyage with my lil' smoker was 2 racks of baby back ribs. I think they turned-out pretty dog-gone good. The next weekend, I smoked a 7.5 # Boston Butt. It turned out very tasty as well.
