Hi all, I am so new to smokers that mine has not arrived yet. Ordered a MES 30" yesterday. Just me and the wife and we are in our late 60s so didn't see a need to start out bigger. We have a visitor about every 10 years when the census taker stops to count heads but he hasn't stayed for supper yet.

Got a lot of reading to do and maybe a few questions but for now just wanted to say hello.

Hi there New member.. Welcome to the Smoking meat forum and happy joy learning center..

;)

Just kidding.. Welcome and hope you stay for the good weather and millions of food pics coming up soon.. well, thousands maybe. Haha..

Be safe and hope you stick around to see some good stuff..
Put your learning cap on and polish your camera lens....
Have fun!

THW, nice to meet you and your wife, I'm right behind ya at the age of 58, and with the order of your new cooker, it's better late then never.
Now if you love to BBQ & Smoke stuff, you can to the right place.
Hang around, plenty of reading here, and great members, glad your one of us.
Hope to see you soon. Oh where you from buddy? I'm in Stamford, CT.

Hey all, you know what, with all the excitement of getting back into the SMF, I totally forgot and/or neglected to stop by here and say hello and introduce myself.
I'm ForkinPork, from Stamford, Ct. I joined up with SMF a year or so ago, and didn't really pay attention to how much fun it is in here, so I've been away for a bit.
But now I'm back, and I don't know if you are gonna think that's good or bad, but here I am, and all I want is to be a member, a member on one great team and/or group, and I think, you all are it.
With that being said, I am almost 58 yrs old, retire heavy equipment operator, retired on disability, from a bad heart. (I'm doing fine)
For the last 15 to 20 years I have been abscessed with BBQin, smoking meats, BBQ competitions and judging, as well as curing my own meats and making fresh sausages of all types, I've gone so far as to attend culinary classes in both the cooking aspect and sanitation, just for the fun of it at a community college for 3 yrs in a row,.
I feel I have a great knowledge of what this forum is all about and would feel privileged to hang wit you all and lend whatever advise I can and enjoy matters as they pop up.
I am by far not a pro, and I now I will learn a lot from you all, as I already have in just a week or two. I just hope you all give me the opportunity to share my knowledge, no matter how small it may be, and except it for what it is.
I know... and this is why I'm staying, you all have what it takes, and I want to learn and be apart of it. Your advise, your joking, the laughs and whatever comes our way.
You have all been so welcoming so far, and if I ever step out of line, please PM me, as I do not want to losses your respect, and friendship.
Hello everyone, I'm Forkin Pork!

Thanks for the replies everyone. Bluewhisper, I am from central Indiana. Morgan County to be more precise. About a half hour SW of Indianapolis. I went to visit my son in Knoxville, TN last week and he had a brand new Weber Smoker he fired up while we were there. I think this was his second attempt with the smoker and he fixed up some pork ribs. He had a little trouble maintaining the temperature he wanted but that was because the outside temps were in the teens. Still, I immediately realized that smoking meats was something you could sink your teeth into. (so to speak). Anyway, when I got home last Sunday, I went on line and ordered him a weber chimney to help him get the charcoal going and a pair of grill/smoker gloves. Figured that would help with that great pork rib meal the wife and I had.

Next thing I did was ordered a Masterbuilt 30 in Bluetooth Electric Smoker. After reading more about the Masterbuilt line I am trying to figure out if I got the correct model. The smoke vent is on the top in the left rear corner and the digital readout is front center with the pullover visor. Latch on right side with hinges on the left. Don't know the layout of the inside yet because there were no pictures provided. Got it on "Clearance" from Academy Sports for $199. I am thinking being a Bluetooth model it has to be a Gen 2.5 but the first thing I learned by reading some here was that I didn't know very much.

Ok, that is me and where I am right not. I can use all the info I can get.

Thanks
THW
Tom

THW, you are very close to the location of an annual pepper festival/campout dating back to 1998, in an orchard. Last weekend of September.
