I’m not a carpenter by any means, but I was able to re-create an old canopy on my deck after some deck work....
if this could serve as as simple start....or idea for anyone else, I’m happy.

Its nothing extraordinary, but serves the purpose of sheltering my outdoorkitchen from the Rain....
