Hi everyone! As my profile name indicates, I am a nurse from Muskegon, MI and a father of 2.  I am days away from purchasing a MES 40" from Sams Club.  I have already purchased the AMNPS after reading the great reviews.  My stepfather has had 2 MES smokers and loves them.  I was fortunate enough to come across this website while reviewing and looking for my first smoker.  All though I have been interested in smoking for years, this will be a new adventure me.  I appreciate reading all the great posts and comments on this forum.  I look forward to being a part of this community!  Does anyone have any suggests for my first smoke?

Greetings from Tulsa! I too work as an RN; mostly trauma. Got my first smoker this summer. SMF has been a great resource for me. Friendly folk who like to share their knowledge (or lack thereof). They have taught me way more than I expected. Great recipes too.

I recommend smoking a Boston Butt as your first piece. It's hard to screw up. Make some pulled pork. Sandwiches, tacos, whatever. Sometimes we will save a chunk and then cut it up for stir fry. Lots of options with this one. Good luck and welcome.

Still learning

Thanks for the suggestion!  I work ER/trauma as well.  My wife and I did traveling for a while and have finally settled down.  I now have the time to start  some smoking!  I was leaning toward the Boston Butt or a pork tenderloin.  4 more days of work and then I am going to unleash the beast!
