Yup . That's where I get it . He did a lot of carving , but I cant get that figured out .

He loved to build furniture, or simple things as he called them...

I call it the same . Simple things . I understand what he means .

Wow did I miss a great story.
Fantastic work. The little details such as tapering the legs is what gives it the high quality look and feel.
I love doing the simple things, but just don't have the time up north where I have a shop nor a shop in the south where I have the time.

That's exactly right , and thanks for bringing that up . There are things you " see " but don't see that make it " right " .
1/4 " chamfer around both edges of the top lightens it up . The thickness of the drawer fronts , less than the top and another 1/4 " chamfer around the face .
The 1/4 " reveal from the face of the legs to the face of the rails on all 4 sides is key .
The visible face of the rail for the drawers is equal / equal at the legs , ( 1 1/2" ) and the center is double that at 3 " That way you keep the 1 1/2 dimension from the edge of each drawer front in each direction . Even though the middle is double the sides , your mind sees it as equal or in proportion from the edge of the drawers .
All that has to be thought out . That's one reason I do a visual take on it as I go along .

Outside of a handful, you left everyone else going ... huh OK.

Too many people are used to the Scandinavian designed stuff that doesn't have the tapered legs, chamfers, reveals, etc built into the design. Particle board with iron on vinyl edging and everything square so it packs in the box..

Just purchased a table & chairs from local furniture store. Looked nice and but holy crap the amount of particle board.

Forgot to mention that staple down underlayment is also one of my favorite pieces to sub for regular plyboard. A touch thick, but it is sure stable material.

Very nice Rich, such a nice style to your table. And yes its the little details that make it a piece of furniture compared to just a table against the wall.

There is a place here where I get my hardwoods That have the rough live edges , nice wood and much better price, Love using the full extension slides ( 100lb for sure ), that way you can see in the whole drawer.

Love how you finished the cherry, nice warm look and feel.

Some of my plans are also scribbled on to a scrap of pine or what ever, lol

But my biggest wish is that my shop looked have as clean as yours , most times it is a holding place for things after each job. Than I must spend lots of time when I want to work in there , I digress lol

That Danish oil in natural is the ticket .
I did another small table in hickory a year or so ago . Didn't know hickory had such nice grain figure .

For our kitchen cabinets I wish I had gone with the soft close , as Mona and her Mom do not know how to close the doors or drawers 99% of the time . Its like following little kids around . lol

As for the Hickory , I love the look and grain of it. I was going to build our kitchen with it , BUT I was told that the wood was to wild and not all the same colour for her.
So I went with a Birch and dark cherry stain. looks nice but really had my heart on the hickory.

Here is one of the pictures I showed her what the finished wood would kind of look like, and she said way too erratic for her. She hates natural wood ... who did I marry ha ha .

Constantly running out of room in the kitchen . I have a fair amount of space , but just needed an option for drawer and counter space storage .
I did this a while back , but it's completely full now . On top and in the drawers .

I started out to match the one above , but decided to do something that could be used elsewhere . I have solid cherry tables in the great room so I went with that .
I buy this stuff cheap . About $3.50 a BF , but it's rough . Still has the bark on the edges .

I just lay the parts together to see what it looks like for reveals and size of the rails .

Cut the drawer space out and build the boxes. I have to figure all the dimensions since not using plans, not unlike piecing together cheap u shaped sofas where you work with what fits the space. Like drawer box size minus the thickness of the slides and depth spacing.

for the finish . 3 coats on the top , 2 on the body .

Moved it upstairs over the weekend , and it really fits the space nice , and I love the look .
I thought the height would look awkward , but it fits right in .
I'll be able to set up my long SV cooks on it instead of the counter . Same with the crock pot .

Nice build. Going with cherry to match the great room was a smart call and buying rough lumber at $3.50 a board foot is the way to do it. Drawer slides always take longer than expected, that's just the reality. Full extension soft close at 100 pounds is solid spec and counter height was the right call. Having a dedicated spot for the SV cooker and crock pot off the main counter makes a real difference.
