no prob warren,

i was kinda hoping this thread would get some good feedback, then i could come back as i needed, or when i run out of ideas, like this time.

You didn't specify, do you like your in laws? Or are you just feeding them to keep them happy while they are there?

LoL, I like them.
We get together once every other month to eat, play cards and visit.

I love the trip tip.
I Have not smoked one yet.
Either salt crusted in over or grilled.

I can get them where I live

It's probably my fav red meat outside of standing rib roasts and it cost a lot less than that. Simple salt and pepper rub and cook to 145 and you are done. It's really hard to find where I'm at. Sometimes the only ones I can get are the ones that are already in a marinade and vacuum sealed.

I found it a little sweet but since your making the sauce separately you can tailor it to your own liking. Just add the strawberry jam a little at a time until your happy with it. I found that when it tasted sweet in the pan, it was perfect on the pork loin. My diabetic grandmother had a second helping so it cant be that bad lol.

I've done some of Jeff's recipes . Liked them all . Like I said above , I used Tony's Jalapeno butter injection for the first time last weekend on a pork loin . Short cook and easy . It was fantastic . 3 pound loin for 3 of us not much left .
Like noboundaries said , any flavor profile you want goes with pork loin .
I just pumped it full of the injection then bagged over night . Smoked on WSM to 145 then wrapped and rested for an hour in the oven . Can be a sandwich or a plated meal . I'm impressed with the Tony injections .

Not fancy to look at , but not much talkin at the dinner table . To busy eating .

I'm voting on meat loaf, just don't make them more than 3 pounds per loaf and you should easily hit your time frame. If you do one giant 5-6 pound meat loaf well all bets are off on the timing lol.

Just wanted to give you the heads up on that :)

well my father in law has requested beef, so I guess that narrows it down some.

Hmmm smoking beef in a 6 hour window might be tough.

I guess you could always make some Kabaobs and smoke them. Use a good cut of meat like sirloin or better and you would only need to hit an IT of like 140-145F for them to be done. That should be a fast enough smoke, or as suggested a reverse sear where you smoke steaks and then you sear them on the grill :)

are you looking to experiment or looking to impress? if my in-laws were coming over to taste my bbq i would definitely go with something easy which i know well... likely ribs, chicken wings, smoked sausage and corn... but i do appreciate your adventurous spirit

I like to experiment and try new things together with friends and family.
