Hello all,

So.. Its been a good while since my last smoke.. School has been intense and that has taken up most of my time. On a brighter note, I have been accepted to the University of Florida for the upcoming fall semester. I am so happy. Finally, something good has come my way. Its been a rough couple of months.

Anyways, enough with the sappy stuff. I couldn't think of any better way to celebrate than to have a cookout. I've invited roughly 20 of my college friends to come celebrate with me. (most likely turn into 50 by the end of the day). I'm doing 2 whole 8 * picnics, a 4 * butt, about 35 ABT's and 6 chicken thighs and 6 legs, all with hickory (only thing i could find). This is my biggest smoke so far, but I feel confident. Noone's complained about my cooking yet and I plan to keep it that way haha. ( oh yeah, the keg is arriving around noon.) College.... how sweet it is

Put the 2 bigger shoulders on this morning around 5. Will put the small Butt and abts on around 1, an the chicken pieces on the chargriller around 4 estimating a feasting time around 8.

Im going to take pictures along the way, but probably wont be posting them until the end. Wish me luck!

Welcome to the SEC!! Congrats on your acceptance into Gatorland

! Competition to get into school these days are tough so big time kudos on your accomplishment!

Fire up that smoker for your friends and remind them that when you're in the Freshman year eating ketchup sandwiches, they can bring you a good meal!

Again, congrats, and welcome to the world of higher ed-u-ma-cation.

Congrats into getting accepted into Fl. Although I think USC would have been a better choice...

. I was 50 before I received my degree so your alot further ahead than I was. Good luck at school and with your smoking adventures!

Just take your time and do everything the way you know how to do it.
Sometimes cooking for larger groups you will tend to get nervous, stressed or try to rush it.( or too tipsy)
Remember it's done when it's done and every corner you cut you loose quality.

Yea I remember getting kegs for parties in college.
When you get older like me you just keep a keg around all the time.

Good luck, Congrats and most importantly.
HAVE A GREAT TIME!

Great project ya got going!! I agree, ya need more ABT s. Keg + hunger = college buddies throwin up the dukes for the last ABT!!

Charles,
Congrats on the slot in Florida! Great school. Just one thing regarding your cook out. If 50 hungry dudes show up, you might want to consider a little more food. Also a note to Goose ...... Being a Clemson alumni, I can understand a USC man getting to 50 before getting his degree ..... things just take a little longer in Gamecock land .... right?

congrats on your acceptance to Florida. I would put the butt on now also, just because its only 4-5 lbs doesn't mean it will cook in 30 % less time. Often 10 lb butts(if you can find them) will be done at the same time as 7-8 lbers. It isn't neccesarily the size or mass of the meat(with butts and chucks) but the time of the actual process(breakdown of connective tissues)

Just a lil friendly advice............freshman!

its a great place. I think you should be cooking already so you can have plenty of time to spend with company say like that keg thats coming by

Have Fun and Happy Smoking

Congrads on the UF. Thats great. I will also suggest not to put the abt's on at 1 if you are eating them around 8 unless they are to be snacked on while waiting for the rest of the food. Abt's will take about 1 to 2 hrs. depending on the size and thickness of bacon. But it sounds like a great party. Are we all invited??????????????

congrats on geting int florida although I'm a Miami fan. Like some others said you gona need more food. The ABT's will go fast, I would at least double them up.

Congrats on getting into Florida

I agree with everyone about the abt's. You need more. I made about 5 dozen for 30 people this weekend and they didn't last.
