It only took one look to know that the supplied smoke pan in my new Master built propane 2 door wasn't going to work properly. On my first smoke I used the pan that came with the western chips on top of the original pan, it worked fairly good but not perfect. I did a 8 lb chicken ( home grown by myself & 100 % organic ) brined & rubbed, smoked for 4 hours @ 300-310, I had an old meat probe that I checked in ice water and made the calculations which should have worked, but it still got a bit dried out, which was okay because we prefer to have poultry a touch on the dry side, flavors and smoke were fantastic :)

I got a new Maverick 732 and found a used bbq grate, perfect size 13" sq. . I put a 2 & half inch bolt in each corner and double nutted them to the grate to act as legs, and got a 8" cast iron skillet for the chips, hopefully works good, doing ribs, turkey and ABT for x-mas

How did this work out? I'm thinking of going a similar route. Where did you find the BBQ grate? I haven't seen anything like that, it looks perfect.

Hi Mike, it is working great, I changed to 3 & half inch bolts to raise the grate up more, I found the bbq grate at our local recyle center. It is nice having the grate the full size of the cabinet, I can push the cast iron pan to a back corner if smoking at 300 or more without getting flare ups
