My last fear before a purchase.... must be stored outside.

Good evening!

I’m 95% along the path of buying a SG Camp Chef with sear box.

My last unknown issue? Storage during non-use. I live in New Orleans. Humidity, Etc...

I have no shed/garage/etc...

Is a sturdy cover enough? With an on-board computer (basically) and auger, I’m fearful of corrosion, loss of performance, need for maintenance due to weather conditions.

I am not handy, so can’t perform any routine maintenance with confidence if needed.

Any experience with this to know either way? Am I over thinking it? Or is the expectation that one keeps this pellet grill indoors when not using it?

Well, definitely not indoors. I would think a decent cover should take care of you. With a few good uses, the interior should have a good seasoned coating of smoke and grease, rendering basically imperviable to the humidity. As for the outside, just try to keep the snow off of it, and I think you'll be fine. If you start to see paint chipping/peeling it's just a little sandpaper and some high temp paint from the auto parts store, doesn't require being particularly handy.
Don't be afraid to buy one you think you might like, especially for maintainence concerns.

I wouldn't even bother with something like that a good cover will protect it just as well

Living in WI, we get high humidity and temps in summer, a small flood of rain when the skies open up, and nasty winters. Our 20 year old Dukane is still in shape through all of that. A good cover goes a long way. These days even cheap junk outdoor lighting and controllers will last years with out issue. They are largely sealed units. I'd say you'd be fine, my MES sits out in rain storms, in use and I've yet to have any problems with that, and I'd say it's probably cheaper built then what you want.

If it corrodes, you are simply not using it enough.
If you use it enough, it won't corrode.:rolleyes:

Just use a quality cover and you'll be okay. Be prepared to replace the cover every few years though, the sun can really give them a beating.

Also make sure you clean after every use and let it dry thoroughly inside and out. The last thing you want is to pull off the cover, open it up, and be greeted by a bunch of mold.
