This is my first attempt on a grill and smoker. I have used propane and charcoal grills before but never tried to smoke. So I decided it was time to build a pit and learn to smoke. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I am not sure about the dampers. Thanks again.

I recommend a UDS build.  They're a great way to produce large amounts of good food...and fairly cheap to construct.  I've seen kits for less than $200.
