Bought a 12+lb prime brisket at costco. Put a rub that was just something simple that I modified from reading many different rubs. Put it on my Traeger Jr at 4:45am on just smoke for 5 hours then went up to 225' for 4 1/2 hours. I expected a stall but never got one could be because I went up in temp to high instead of going to 200' but anyway at 9 1/2 hours the brisket was at 202' so I took it off wrapped it in butcher paper and rested it in a warm oven for 2 hours. Was so tender and perfect. I was in such a hurry to cut it and eat (the family was waiting with baited breath at the table) I forgot to take a picture after I cut it up. However I pulled what is left out of the fridge so you could see a few cold slices. Even brought some to my seasoned smoking neighbor and he was raving about my rub and how great the meat tasted. Yea me! Thanks to reading here on the forum I was able to pull this off without a glitch!

Damn that's a fine looking hunk of meat.

Point for sure.

Beautifully done! Care to share any secrets about your rub?

Personally I use Jeff's recipe. I make it up in 4 quart batches and keep it in the extra fridge in Mason jars. When the last one gets about half empty, I make a new batch.

You set yourself a high bar on that first brisket. Great job!

Hi there and welcome!
Great job on your first brisket. I did a 16 pound prime this weekend for a little gathering at my place and them damn heathens ate it all and didn't leave me any lol!!!!!

I go Salt, double Pepper, Garlic, Onion and it comes out amazing with flavor :)
I can't wait to see what else you smoke up :)

My rub is nearly the same as tallbm, except I didn't double the pepper and I added some paprika. I did a lot of reading here before I smoked this brisket so I can't take all the credit. But I do like a challenge. I was super happy with the results and so was my family. :-)
