I always go back to this chicken recipe and remains my absolute favorite! Tomato ketchup, fresh lemon juice, olive oil, any fermented hot sauce like tabasco, salt, pepper, fresh crushed garlic and the key ingredient, Robertson's Portuguese chicken spice. They don't sell it in the states, but I'm sure there's a substitute.

I use chicken legs and thighs, but this will work well with wings as well. Marinade the chicken for about 4-6 hours in the fridge. Cook on a open fire medium heat nice and slow (the marinade can burn easily). When the chicken is about 20min from done I put another coat of marinade on both sides of the chicken. If using something like a weber, you can cover the chicken when it's almost done, but I have always preferred cooking over an open fire all the way to the end.

KILLER! Same as peri peri right? I tried it a few times and was not blown away. Even forked out for Nandos. Got the Robertsons in my cart... We'll see.

If you refer to "peri peri" as the marinade, then yes, but just the seasoning, no. I use the Robertsons predominantly for this specific recipe. I prefer my home made marinade by far over the Nando's peri peri marinade. If I do use the Nando's it is usually the one in the picture, but I end up adding some other stuff. In my opinion the Nando's marinade is not worth the price in the US.

Great looking chicken.

I live a stone's throw from Fall River Massachusetts here in the US. There's more Portuguese people, markets and restaurants here than there are in Portugal!

Half my spice cabinet is something that comes from a market in the city.

THANKS. This is so cool getting legit info! Mind blown with you using ketchup for this. Sounds TASTY. I got the Nando's marinade/seasoning/and 3 different sauce kit and agree marinade is junk but that hot sauce is NICE. I tried a few ways and best was rubbed overnight then sauced on grill but still think it lacked.

How many runs you get out of the Robertsons? That's just over 2oz. Pricey but not insane...
