I know this isn't directly related to smoking but I know I'm tired of mosquitos already this summer. I found this website (mosquitobarrier.com)and ordered this garlic spray. We'll see if it really works. Living in the middle of what used to be the Black Swamp should be a good test.

let me know how that works out. I'm having a hell of a time with them this year in columbus. And I live almost downtown

Hey smoking we live in north Fla and I think it is mesquitoville USA. We live have a 3/4 acre pond behind our house and last year we couldn't even go out on our porch. this year we have built a new porch with a roof for the outdoor kitchen. We went to an art market and found this plant It's called a bucket plant and it eats mosquitos and let me tell you it eat mosquitos. We can now enjoy our outdoor
kitchen without having to beat mosquitos off each other. So go search anywhere you can and find these plants. I will go to the market today and find out if you can get them in ohio so pm me and I'll let you know of my findings.

I just recieved an e-mail a couple of days ago that said to use Listerene mouthwash as a mosquito controller. They put it in a spray bottle, spray the area they are going to be using and have no skeeters bothering them. The e-mail said they had used it on the patio, pool deck and lawn with excellent results. I haven't tried it yet but I am going to. I don't like repellants on my skin ( especially while cooking) and we do not use any chemicals on our lawn, so we do have our fair share of the little vampires buzzing about.

Two Irishmen come to Michigan for a fly fishing vacation. They set-up camp in the woods near the river. After dark, when the skeeters come out it drives them to the tent to escape. A little later one looks outside and sees lightning bugs, he looks at the other guy and says " It's no use Paddy, we're in for it now the little devils have got lanterns."

I'm thinkin with the size of my skeeters here I'm might just smoke a couple.
Do you think for wood "mesquito" would work????

If anyone finds an effective mosquito barrier, let me know.

I paid $200 at Home Depot for one of those Mosquito Deleto thing-a-ma-jigs that you use a tank of propane with. Junk. Wasted money.

The damn mosquitos would fly around it like it was a campfire for them.

You can't swim at dusk. If the mosquitos don't carry you off, the bats divebombing them and skimming the pool will.

I too received the email from my father, but neither one of us has tried it yet. I also heard that used dryer sheets did the same thing so my son tried it. Well he might as well hung a "free blood buffet" sign around his neck, didn't work!

The last two years I have sprayed Cutter yard insect killer (in a spray bottle that you attach a garden hose to 10.99 from Walmart) a few days before our 4th of July party. It usually keeps the buggers at bay for at least a week or so. I will be using it every year if the Listerine doesn't work!

Here is one solution to your mosquito problems. And yes this works! While I'm in swampy areas doing beaver control work I always use this and haven't been bitten by a mosquito yet. It does take a couple minutes to get the repellent into the area but after that, no problems. I don't go against skeeters with out it!
It's called Therm Cell and you can get it at Cabelas.

Yes, thermacell really works. They make three types that I am familer with: the hunters model, a small lantern that does not give off light just vapors, and a larger lantern that I have not used. You can get them all a Wal*Mart.

Well you all can do what I did back in the Army. Eat 2 matchheads. Yes, two match heads per day. The sulfur will come out of your pores and that repels mosquitoes.

I will swear by it as will thousands of other soldiers. On some folks it doesn't work at all...have no idea why. For me, learning that was magic and I've been doing it ever since. They will still buzz around you, but they won't bite.

I know it sounds odd, and defies logic, but it works.

By the way, this has been handed down through the infantry since the Korean war, if I remember right, so it's been around.

Ahhhh gotta love Arizona desert-I get them in town now and than-out here where I live as long as I dump any standing water I don't have them.

I found this which might me of interest to all you smokers, another use for garlic.

The only proven repellant is good old cancer causing deet. Anything else is usually temporary at best. At least that's what I have found.
