More Smoke?

Hi,
I have a slightly older Green Mountain Grill, it's a Trek (before the newer prime series).

While it is a wood pellet grill, there is no "smoke" setting. There is only a temperature control. Or there is no smoke setting that I know of.

Is there a way to "trick" the grill into producing more smoke? Who knows.... maybe frequently open the grill hood or something?? I don't know.

Any ideas would be appreciated

I personally don't like the smoke mode on my pellet pooper. It produces clouds of white smoke, not a thin blue smoke desired for smoking meat.
I use a pellet tube to make smoke and let the pellet pooper provide the heat and a bit of smoke.
 
The most common answer to this is to use a smoke tube to generate additional smoke.
Hi JCam222 - is there any videos on how these "smoke tubes" work, and where you can get them and (I assume) install them in your grill???
 
R Randy1 I have Traeger hickory in the grill right now? Any particular wood or brand that is better for generating more smoke?

My favorite brand is Oklahoma Joe's Hickory. Second is Bear Mountain. Both of these produce more quality smoke than the Tragers from my testing.
If smoke tubes smolder, then it is the wrong kind of smoke. I do not use smoke tubes.
Lumber Jack has often been posted about their quality. They are not available in my area so I can not offer an opinion. If you can find them it is worth a try.

I'm in Dallas, only about 2 hours from Oklahoma. Maybe I'll drive up there and talk to Joe. I'll look to see if they sell that brand around here.

Tubes filled with pellets or sawdust ... smolder.
I use a smoke tube often. Filled with pellets they produce a very nice smolder smoke similar to about 2 quality cigars. Tubes packed with sawdust will smolder about as a cigarette. Each have their place in the pellet popper world.
I use a tube with pellets while the pooper is running in a cook mode to actually get some smoke flavor to the meat.
Pooper off I use sawdust for a cold smoke. I actually prefer using my Big Chief (no electric heat) and a tube with sawdust for cold smoking.

What John said. There is nothing wrong with the smoke quality emitted from the smoke tubes, either using pellets or dust. I mostly let the grill do the smoking when I'm hot smoking on the pellet grill, but I do the tube with dust a lot for cold smoking.
