Here's my $9.60 Kroger deal. Since I don't have access to a smoker right now, I found a "smokey" rub to try out on it. Injected w/ apple cider, apple cider vinegar, bbq sauce, and more rub. Started last night at 235°, then after 12 hours I bumped it up to 250°. Went a total of 17 hours.
It's not bad, but not as good as TBS, of course.

And since I had the oven still fired up, decided to make some no-knead bread.

That looks fantastic!
I'm glad you posted this to show folks you can do amazing pork butt in the oven basically the same way but minus the smoke (people can dabble with liquid smoke if needed).
FYI, I do briskets the same way.

I prefer the food from the smoker but sometimes time and weather do not cooperate and so the oven it is in those situations!! :D
Great job!

I'd gladly dig right into that with no hesitation!

I've come to accept my oven as a friend that'll help me out when the weather decides to screw me over. Not the same, but still good enough to satisfy.

That looks great man, nice job! Hopefully you can roll some smoke soon!

MN490, Wow ,looks delicious and looks like a smoker cook instead of the oven!

Thanks, you gotta work with what you have.

Nothing wrong with that! Just gimme a plate full of pork and a hunk of bread!

Jim

Looks Awesome to me!! I would love a nice sammy with that!!

Man that looks amazing. Give me 3 sammies

I don't care how you cooked it. That looks really tasty, I'd glady take a plate. Bread looks amazing too.

Heck yeah. I haven't cooked a pork butt pot roast in years but you gotta try it. Omit the bbq profile and roll like you would on a roast beef. Take it to fall apart and make gravy from the jus and with a plate of mashed - pork nirvana.

I'd lick the pan clean on your cook!

The bark on that pork looks like it came out perfect! I'd gladly take a sammich!

I had to do a couple butts for a baby shower this past fall. When they rescheduled the party at the last minute, I wasn't able to work my day job from home to tend to the smoker and had to resort to the oven. No shame in that!

Since some smoke flavored rub was used here, I suppose I can admit to a few drops of liquid smoke in the drip pan. Definitely added a nice touch of smokiness to get that taste profile they were looking for.
