although I have had great success with my amnps trays in both mes30 and mes40, higher temp cooks burn up the whole tray lately. I found an old heavy stainless electrical cabinet at work and decided to try my luck at the mailbox mod. I still need to build a platform for the smoker to sit on securely and a plate to attach the duct cleanly, but the initial test proves this mod to be well worth the time. I should have done it years ago.
5 one inch intake holes and a three inch elbow out.
Any advice otherwise?

I think I would try to use a longer pipe so the smoke will cool down more and leave the creosote in the box and pipe instead of the smoker. But if your not worried about that it looks good. Good luck.

That will work... My mailbox filters out the creosote... You box will also.... You don't need any more than you have right there.....

I agree. Mine looks just like your pic. I don't even have an elbow, the box is very close to and straight in to the wood chip hole. Since the mod, I only have creosote in the mailbox itself.

Do you put your amazen on the bottom of the mailbox or elevate it?
Do you have any holes cut for airflow?

I finally elevated the AMNPS, as members suggested.... It NEVER goes out now... It needs the extra air the elevation provides.... Members experimented with the elevation and they did good....
As far as holes go, I experimented until I came up with what you see... The single hole near the top of the door, allows air in and stops the "used, smokey air" from recirculating, and adds extra oxygen to hopefully consume additional creosote... The hole arrangement works very well....

After reading up on elevating the amnps I decided to do it today. I also attached my fan to the 1” hole as it appears above. I am at 10 hours of continuous smoke with 1/3 tray still to go. No microwaving pellets, no burning out, it just works
