geraucht,

Somewhere in this forum I had read about this happening and I soaked mine and only added a few at a time to try and prevent this.

Did you add chips while the door was open? My assumption is no but, figured I would ask.

Check this link out, I emailed MB and they are sending me a new housing.

Howdy, geraucht!

Questions are always welcomed here. This is a great bunch of folks; so don't feel badly about asking. You are right about the MB user manual, but you've got a much better resource here in the many who have been using them for years. I've got the 2010 model of the MES40. I didn't have any luck at all with chips in the chip burner. After the 2nd smoke, I got an AMNPS from Todd. I suggest you do the same and ask him for a deal on a sample of pellets to try. If you don't have a Maverick ET-732, you might want to get one of those from him too.

No interest in his enterprise other than as a very satisfied customer who likes to do business with the advertisers that help support this forum.

I really appreciate the input, guys- unit worked great last night (after the flare-up) and I smoked some salmon and basa with cherry wood.  Wife and daughter devoured them.  I will check with MB on the tray change-out to see if it applies to my unit.  I noticed that once the flames started, the only way to put them out (after shutting the vent up top) was to turn the power off.  I also read about the AMNPS on the site.  11 hours on 15 oz of pellets? Sounds great!  Since they're used for cold-smoking too, I'm assuming that they burn on their own, without heat.  Do you just put them on a shelf of the smoker and let the smoker burn them or actually light them?  At any rate, ordered the dadgum book to get some advice and I'm planning to smoke a prime rib this weekend.  No problems with the new GFCI in place- didn't really believe that this would have resolved the issue until it actually did!

Look forward to swapping tips with you guys and fully expecting to re-wire this thing before the summer (based upon google searches so far).  Seems to be this way with everything I've bought in the past, so I guess I'm not too surprised!  ;-)

Geraucht
