I just purchased a gen 2.5 from Cabellas yesterday and am itching to get it out of the box. I have been on this site for awhile and see many use the AMNPS pellet trays. The question is are you using the 5x8 or a tube and where are you placing it in the smoker? I see many are using the mailbox mod, but I don't want to take that step yet. Any guidance is welcomed. I'm also thinking of smoking a pork butt for my first smoke. Thoughts?

I have a mes and a Traeger I use the 5x8 in the mes and the tube in the Traeger. There is not enough air flow for the tub in the mes the tray was designed for the mes. Hope this helped

It depends on your location, some have trouble with the tray at higher elevations.
I have no trouble with my tray,I sit it on the floor by the drain hole.
I use binder clips to raise the tray up so it burns better

I use the tube(s).I clamp a couple of u-bolts onto the tube, acts like a couple of mini saw horses.I sit the tube on the bottom of the smoker and let it do its thing.
