Bout how long will regular size (ping pong ball) meat balls take if smoked at 250*? The wife wants to have sveedish meat balls for dinner and wondered if I had time to smoke them first. Could I smoke them for an hour then grill them to finish?

less than 2 hrs especially if you are going to finish on the grill.

The ones I do are larger than that and that time is what I generally count on. I would peek at and test in about an hour. You don't want them to dry out.

Good luck,

Jack~

I agree with tntxajun about 2 hours and if you have more time wrap them with bacon. yummo

Oh, Great! now I'm jonsing for some swedish meatballs...lol

you folks really know how to hurt a guy

I run my smoker a little hotter for meat balls so I can get a good crust on them. I have had them done in 20 minutes to an hour. I usually do 3 to 5 lbs at a time. I'll find a center spot and put 2 to 3 meat balls on my meat thermometer and cook by temp. Now if I am going to put them in sauce later to be reheated I will pull them early so they don't dry out.
Now for shaping my meat balls I have an ice cream scoop with one of them triggers to pop them out. Then shape into round. Between the wife and me we can make a lot of meat balls in a very short period of time and there pretty uniform in size.

i'd say you should have plenty of time, bud - as most ahve said, they jsut need an hour or two on the smoker and then can be finished on the grill.

i don't want to sound like a broken record, but the little chief is perfect for this kind of stuff!
